Puzzle cube mural of Rumi Gate
World Heritage Day, observed on April 18, celebrates the rich cultural and historical heritage of the world. It raises awareness about the importance of preserving monuments, sites, and traditions that define civilizations. On this day, heritage walks, exhibitions, and restoration efforts are promoted globally to protect the architectural and cultural treasures that connect us to our past.
One such marvel is Rumi Gate in Lucknow, an exquisite example of Mughal and Awadhi architecture built in the 18th century by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula. Often called the “Gateway to Lucknow,” it stands 60 feet tall and symbolizes the grandeur of the Nawabi era. What makes it extraordinary is its optical illusion design—from a distance, the size of the gateway appears to change, showcasing the brilliant craftsmanship of that time.
