Puzzle cube mural of Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his Birthday
Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President of independent India, serving from 1950 to 1962, making him the longest-serving President in Indian history. A stalwart of the Indian freedom movement and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, he played a key role in shaping the nation’s democratic framework. Born on December 3, 1884, in Bihar, he was a brilliant scholar, lawyer, and statesman known for his humility, dedication, and integrity. His leadership during the Constituent Assembly debates ensured the smooth adoption of the Indian Constitution.
He was so academically gifted that when he appeared for the entrance exam at the University of Calcutta, his examiner was so impressed that he wrote on his answer sheet, “The examinee is better than the examiner.” His simplicity was legendary—despite being the head of state, he led an austere life, even washing his own clothes. His selfless dedication earned him the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1962.
