Kiran Bedi is a prominent Indian social activist and retired police officer known for her pioneering role in the Indian Police Service (IPS). She joined the IPS in 1972, becoming the first woman in India to do so. Throughout her career, Bedi introduced several reforms in policing and prison management, earning recognition for her innovative approaches. Her tenure as the Inspector General of Tihar Jail in Delhi marked a significant transformation in the prison system, where she implemented educational programs, yoga sessions, and skill development initiatives for inmates. These efforts greatly improved the conditions of the prison and brought her international acclaim.

Beyond her police career, Kiran Bedi has been actively involved in social work and public administration. She has worked to promote education, women’s empowerment, and drug prevention initiatives. Bedi has also been a vocal advocate for anti-corruption reforms, participating in major campaigns like the India Against Corruption movement. In 2015, she entered politics and served as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry until 2021. Her contributions continue to inspire individuals working towards social justice and public welfare.
