Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister, was a leader known for his simplicity, integrity, and dedication to the nation. Born on October 2, 1904, he played a key role in India’s freedom struggle and later in shaping the country post-independence. As Prime Minister, he led India during the 1965 war with Pakistan and coined the famous slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, highlighting the importance of both soldiers and farmers in nation-building.
His humble and selfless nature—he never sought personal gain and even took a loan to buy a car. His leadership during the 1965 war and the food crisis showcased his ability to make tough decisions with wisdom and courage. His mysterious death in Tashkent after signing the Indo-Pak peace agreement remains one of history’s unsolved mysteries, adding an enigmatic aspect to his legacy.
