Birthday of Dr. C. V. Raman

Tribute to Dr. C. V. Raman on his birth anniversary.

Dr. C. V. Raman made his Nobel Prize–winning discovery, the Raman Effect, using very simple and inexpensive instruments—proving that great science does not always need expensive equipment. He was so fascinated by sounds and colors in nature that even as a child, he conducted small experiments at home.

Another interesting fact is that Dr. Raman was the first Asian to receive a Nobel Prize in any branch of science. He was also known for his love of music and collected musical instruments from around the world, studying how they produced sound. His curiosity and passion made him a true scientific genius.
