Droupadi Murmu is the 15th President of India, having assumed office on July 25, 2022. She is the first tribal woman to hold the nation’s highest constitutional position. Born on June 20, 1958, in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, Murmu belongs to the Santhal tribe. Before becoming President, she had an extensive political career with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. Her journey from a humble background to the Rashtrapati Bhavan reflects her dedication to social service, education, and tribal welfare.

Murmu began her career as a teacher before entering politics and served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2009. During her tenure, she held various ministerial portfolios in the Odisha government, including Commerce, Transport, and Fisheries.
