The Blooming Dales School – Summer Workshop
The Blooming Dales School is a nurturing preschool that offers a safe, sanitized, and stimulating environment where children learn, grow, and thrive. With a strong emphasis on love, care, and individual attention, BDS fosters creativity, independence, and critical thinking. The school promotes holistic development through a balance of emotional, social, physical, and cognitive learning.
A vibrant and engaging summer workshop was organized at Blooming Dales School by Innovation For Change (IFC), in collaboration with PixelsForCharity (PFC). The workshop featured two thoughtfully designed activities for primary students, both aimed at developing fine motor skills, creativity, and recognition through play-based learning.
Activity 1: Sticky Pixels – Tribute to Colonel Sophia Qureshi
The highlight of the session was a large mural created using Sticky Pixels, a method that allows children to build images by placing colored stickers on a grid. This time, the mural depicted Colonel Sophia Qureshi, a pioneering woman Army officer and a role model of courage and leadership.
From our last session, we realized that the small-sized square stickers were difficult for young children to manage. Their tiny fingers struggled to hold, peel, and align the squares properly. Learning from this, we made key changes for this workshop:
- Sticker Shape: Switched to large circular stickers, easier to hold and peel.
- Sticker Size: Increased to better suit the fine motor skills of preschoolers.
- Design Flexibility: No need for precise alignment—allowing freedom and creative fun.
Children enjoyed sticking the pixels without the pressure of being perfect. Although most children did not initially recognize the figure in the mural, once briefed about Colonel Sophia Qureshi’s background and achievements, their expressions lit up with admiration. The mural became more than just a craft—it became a tool for storytelling and inspiration. Many children enthusiastically said, “I want to become like her!”—a touching testament to the power of representation.

Activity 2: Fill the Pixels – Animal Series with Three Levels
To further encourage creativity and develop coloring skills, we introduced a second activity: Fill the Pixels—a pixel-based coloring challenge featuring animal figures. Unlike previous workshops, where multiple colors and small boxes confused younger children, this time we introduced a three-tiered level system to accommodate varying age groups and skill levels:
- Level 1 (Panda – 1 Color): For younger kids or beginners, using only one color helped ease them into the activity without confusion.
- Level 2 (Turtle – 2 Colors): Introduced a second color to help children gradually improve their recognition and motor coordination.
- Level 3 (Lion – 3 Colors): Designed for slightly older or more experienced children, offering more challenge with an additional color.
We also ensured the pixel boxes were larger this time, keeping in mind the small size of children’s hands. The children could easily color within the lines, leading to a sense of accomplishment and pride in their completed artwork. This differentiated approach proved very effective—every child was engaged at their level and could succeed, which boosted their confidence.
This categorization ensured children weren’t overwhelmed by too many colors and could enjoy the activity at their own pace. Larger pixel boxes were used, making it easier for children to color within the lines using their tiny hands.

The summer workshop at Blooming Dales School was more than just a series of fun activities—it was a celebration of learning, creativity, and connection. With support from IFC and the thoughtful coordination of PixelsForCharity representatives Manav Sharma and Nimisha Srivastava, the event successfully provided a safe, happy, and enriching space for children to explore and express themselves.
As we look forward to future workshops, this session will remain a shining example of how art, play, and compassion can come together to light up young minds.
