Chandrayaan Mission – Natural Satellite of Earth – The Moon

Puzzle cube mural made of moon

The Chandrayaan mission is India’s ambitious lunar exploration program led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It began with Chandrayaan-1 in 2008, which played a crucial role in confirming the presence of water molecules on the Moon. This was followed by Chandrayaan-2 in 2019, which aimed to explore the Moon’s south pole with an orbiter, lander, and rover. While the lander, Vikram, lost communication during its descent, the orbiter continues to send valuable data about the Moon’s surface and composition.

Chandrayaan-3, launched in 2023, successfully achieved a soft landing near the Moon’s south pole, making India the first country to do so. The mission carried the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover, which conducted scientific experiments, analyzed lunar soil, and studied seismic activity. Chandrayaan-3’s success marked a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey, showcasing ISRO’s growing capabilities and commitment to deep-space exploration. These missions not only enhanced scientific knowledge but also inspired a new generation of space enthusiasts in India and beyond.
