How do you design the image for the mural?

Designing a mural with Rubik’s Cubes or other pixel mediums is a blend of art, coding, and planning. Here’s how we do it:

  1. Select a Picture – We begin by carefully choosing an image that fits the message or theme we want to convey—this could be a famous personality, a cultural symbol, or a social message.
  2. Resize to Pixel Grid – The image is then resized to match the number of “pixels” we want—each pixel will be represented by a Rubik’s Cube or sticker square.
  3. Convert to Grayscale – To simplify and prepare the image for color mapping, we convert it into grayscale. This helps define the shades and structure clearly.
  4. Map to Rubik’s Cube Colors – Using a custom program developed by our in-house art programmer, we fill each pixel with the closest matching Rubik’s Cube color (usually limited to 5: white, yellow, blue, red, and orange).
We don’t use green because with multiple hit and trial method we came to conclusion that green color don’t justify the pixellated image.

This process ensures the mural is visually clear, doable with real cube colors, and carries a strong educational or emotional impact. It’s a perfect example of where technology meets creativity for a cause.
