Vyjayanthimala is a legendary Indian actress, dancer, and politician, known for her grace, talent, and contribution to Indian cinema. A Bharatanatyam exponent, she revolutionized Bollywood by bringing classical dance into mainstream films. With iconic performances in movies like “Devdas” (1955), “Madhumati” (1958), and “Sangam” (1964), she became one of the most celebrated actresses of her time.
She was the first South Indian actress to become a Bollywood superstar, breaking regional barriers. She also rejected a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Devdas, believing her role was equally significant as the lead, setting a precedent in the industry.
