International Yoga Day – Yoga Pose

Rubik’s cube mosaic made of 225 cubes on International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21 to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. This day was first proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, emphasizing yoga’s significance as a holistic approach to health and well-being. The UN adopted this proposal, and in 2015, the world observed the first International Yoga Day. Since then, millions of people across the globe participate in yoga sessions, workshops, and events to mark this occasion.

The date of June 21 was chosen because it coincides with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizing the transition to light and positivity. International Yoga Day highlights yoga’s ability to improve flexibility, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellness. Each year, the celebrations revolve around a unique theme, encouraging people of all ages to embrace yoga as part of a balanced lifestyle.
