Makar Sankranti / Pongal – Kite

This mural was created to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Pongal, harvest festivals observed across India that mark the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn. The kite, a symbol commonly associated with Sankranti, was chosen for the mural to represent joy, freedom, and the spirit of the skies during this festive time.

While kite flying is now a popular Sankranti tradition, it originally had a scientific purpose—ancient people believed that exposure to early morning sun while flying kites in January helped absorb vitamin D and boost immunity during winter.
