Puzzle cube mural made of Sushruta
Sushruta, an ancient Indian physician, is often regarded as the “Father of Surgery.” He is believed to have lived around the 6th century BCE and authored the Sushruta Samhita, a comprehensive text on medicine and surgery. This work describes various surgical techniques, including rhinoplasty (nose reconstruction), cataract removal, and wound suturing. His contributions laid the foundation for modern surgical practices and emphasized the importance of cleanliness, ethics, and patient care.
In addition to surgery, Sushruta’s work covered anatomy, medicinal plants, and disease diagnosis. He advocated hands-on training for students by practicing on fruits, animal tissues, and wax models before operating on humans. His holistic approach combined surgery with Ayurveda, demonstrating an advanced understanding of human health. Today, his legacy continues to inspire medical professionals worldwide.
