Rubik’s cube mosaic of Avani Lekhra
Avani Lekhara is a trailblazing Indian para-shooter who made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in the 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. She further cemented her legacy at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, where she defended her title with another gold medal, setting a new world record. Overcoming a life-changing accident in 2012 that left her with paraplegia, Avani found inspiration in Abhinav Bindra and took up shooting, proving that determination can turn adversity into triumph.
She is the first Indian woman to win multiple medals at a single Paralympic Games and the first to win consecutive golds in her event. Honored with the Khel Ratna Award and Padma Shri, her success has not only brought her personal glory but has also elevated para-sports in India, inspiring countless individuals to dream beyond limitations.
