Puzzle cube mosaic of Shaheed Udham Singh
Shaheed Udham Singh Jayanti is observed on December 26 to honor the life and sacrifice of Udham Singh, a prominent Indian freedom fighter who played a pivotal role in avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Udham Singh, born on December 26, 1899, in Sunam, Punjab, became famous for his courageous act of assassinating Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, in 1940. O’Dwyer was responsible for the brutal massacre of hundreds of unarmed Indians at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar in 1919, and Udham Singh’s act was a response to the injustice and atrocities committed during British colonial rule.
Despite being deeply affected by the trauma of the massacre, he spent over 20 years in exile, traveling through various countries, before finally exacting revenge. His unwavering determination and sacrifice made him one of the most revered martyrs in India’s struggle for independence. His act of courage continues to inspire generations, symbolizing the relentless fight against colonial oppression and the unyielding pursuit of justice.
