Sikkim State Day, celebrated on May 16, marks the day in 1975 when Sikkim officially became the 22nd state of India. Previously a kingdom, Sikkim held a referendum where the majority voted to join India, leading to the abolition of monarchy and its integration into the Indian Union. This day is observed with cultural events, parades, and celebrations highlighting Sikkim’s rich heritage.

It is India’s first organic state, promoting eco-friendly farming and sustainable living. Despite being one of the smallest states, Sikkim boasts breathtaking landscapes, the majestic Kanchenjunga (India’s highest peak), and a unique blend of Tibetan, Nepali, and indigenous cultures.
