Puzzle cube mural made on Vijay Dibos
Vijay Diwas is observed on December 16th every year in India to commemorate the historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. On this day, the Indian Armed Forces, under the leadership of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, secured an unconditional surrender from the Pakistani military, marking one of the shortest and most decisive wars in history. The surrender of over 93,000 Pakistani soldiers remains the largest ever in modern military history, making it a moment of immense pride for India.
In 1971 war India conducted a secret naval operation, “Operation Trident,” where the Indian Navy launched a surprise attack on the Karachi harbor, destroying key oil depots and warships without suffering a single loss. Another fascinating aspect is the role of the Mukti Bahini, the Bangladeshi guerrilla fighters trained and supported by India, who played a crucial role in the victory. Vijay Diwas is not just a day of remembrance but a celebration of India’s military strength, strategy, and humanitarian commitment.
