Rubik’s cube mosaic made on World Lung Cancer Day
World Lung Cancer Day is observed on August 1st each year to raise awareness about lung cancer, its impact, and the importance of early detection and prevention. It serves as a platform to educate people about the risk factors like smoking, pollution, and occupational hazards while also highlighting advancements in research, treatment, and support for patients and their families.
A lesser-known fact about lung cancer is that while smoking is a leading cause, about 10-20% of lung cancer cases occur in non-smokers. These cases can be attributed to factors such as genetic mutations, exposure to radon gas, air pollution, and secondhand smoke. Additionally, research has shown that women are more likely than men to develop lung cancer as non-smokers, making awareness and research crucial for understanding these underrepresented cases.
